Conferences
Linguamatics will be exhibiting at/attending the following conferences. Please visit us at our booth to find out more:
- Linguamatics Fall Users Conference October 12-14 2010, Boston MA, USA
- ICIC 2010 October 24-27 2010, Vienna, Austria
David Milward, CTO at Linguamatics, will be presenting "Interactive Text Mining Techniques for Patent Search and Mining".
Agile text mining approaches have been shown to be valuable for answering questions and extracting knowledge across life sciences research and discovery. This presentation focuses on particular techniques relevant to patent mining. These include use of linguistics for filtering noise and for terminology development, flexible categorisation and the ability to plug in domain-specific thesauri. By adopting these techniques we show how it is possible to accelerate the systematic and comprehensive analysis of a series of patents relating to a compound family, and combine the results with insights from other literature sources such as an organisation's internal documents or external scientific literature.
- Pharma-Bio-Med 2010 November 7-10 2010, Seville, Spain

David Keilman (Linguamatics Director of Channel & Alliances - USA), will be presenting "Linguamatics I2E integration with Pipeline Pilot, a workflow for streamlined text mining".
I2E is a flexible, interactive information extraction system based on Natural Language Processing (NLP). Rather than only searching for keywords, I2E interprets the meaning of unstructured text and rapidly extracts relevant facts and relationships. I2E is used by many of the world's leading pharmaceutical organizations to provide insights from thousands to millions of documents, supporting critical decision making. Linguamatics has recently joined the Accelrys ISV partner network for Pipeline Pilot development. This talk will highlight how the I2E Pipeline Pilot protocols allow for an automated, streamlined approach to text mining.
Search Engine Meeting 2010 April 26-27 2010, Boston, MA
David Milward, CTO at Linguamatics, will be presenting "From Document Search to Knowledge Discovery - Changing the Paradigm".
Business success is often dependent on making timely decisions based on the best information available. Typically, for text information this has meant using document search. However, the process can be accelerated by using agile text mining to provide decision-makers directly with answers rather than sets of documents. This presentation will review the challenges faced in bringing together diverse and extensive information resources to answer business-critical R&D questions in the pharmaceutical domain. In particular, it will outline how an agile NLP-based approach for discovering facts and relationships from free text can be used to leverage scientific knowledge, and move beyond search to automated profiling and hypothesis generation from millions of documents in real time.

David Milward, CTO at Linguamatics, will be presenting "Accessible knowledge discovery using agile natural language-based text mining". This presentation will review the challenges faced by the pharmaceutical industry and other knowledge-intensive industries in answering business-critical questions using diverse text resources. He will discuss a selection of case studies where an NLP-based approach for discovering relevant facts and relationships from unstructured text is delivering significant value - both in terms of improved productivity and in discovering new knowledge by combining information extracted from different sources.
Bio-IT World Conference & Expo 2009 27-29 April 2009, Boston, MA, USA
"Unlocking Toxicity Data for Structure-Activity Modeling By Semi-Automated Extraction from Study Reports"
Many of the results obtained from toxicity tests are stored in study report documents that cannot be easily interrogated to allow toxicity modeling, such as the creation of structure-activity relationships. Fully manual extraction of structured data, including numerical values, is time consuming and expensive.
This collaboration between Pfizer, Linguamatics and Lhasa has resulted in a semi-automated method which involves text mining based on natural language processing (NLP), followed by interactive curation. This talk will provide attendees an understanding of how NLP-based text mining can unlock value in legacy safety studies to support current decision-making.
